Yesterday I took my 88 year old mother shopping, and I was blown away by how kind the average person is. Three people stopped to see if we needed help. Average people understand that the most vulnerable among us needs a little extra help at times. Neighbors do help neighbors.
Unfortunately, the average elected official forgets about simple human kindness. It becomes a game, and the game is hurting people. Tax cuts for the wealthy, and tax loopholes for oil companies are paid for with cuts to social services. The first article I read, upon returning home, was one at Think Progress about budget deals that are paid for by cutting aid for poor women and children.
These cuts to our social safety net, are cruel. The average person gets this. It is time for our elected officials to listen. Call or write your Congressman.
