Welcome to the Police State--Motivated In Ohio

Personally, I don't care for the Westboro Baptist Church protesting at soldiers' funerals.  I disagree with everything that they say.  I will, however, fight for their right to say it.

People protesting Wall Street seem to get much less leniency.  That is what happens in this country when you go after people in power.  You get beaten, pepper sprayed, and arrested.

The biggest threat to our freedom is in the Defense Authorization Bill.  This would allow for U.S. Citizens to be placed in military detention without due process.  People who are conspiring to enact terrorism need to be in custody but not without due process.  We need to separate the people who actually do bad acts from the ones who are just accused of doing them.

One by one, we have been giving up our rights in the name of safety.  My thoughts can be summed up with a quote:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

[Update:  It seems the bill is not as bad as it first appeared.  Please read this at Mother Jones for more info.  http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2011/12/nitty-gritty-ndaa--MIO]
