House Republicans Voted To End Medicare

Yesterday, the House Republicans voted to end Medicare as we know it. While this will probably never make it though the Senate or see the President's pen, it has shown more clearly how these people want to put down the middle class.

The members of Congress who voted for this, will probably never be without health care when they are old. They will not be without an income because they are too old, infirm to work, or their job has been shipped overseas. Their pensions will not be at the whims of a crazy Governor. They have completely lost touch with the American People.

Not one Democrat voted for this horrid bill. This day, especially, I am proud to call myself a progressive Democrat.

The Boogie Man Is Gonna Get You--Motivated In Ohio

The Main Stream Media is telling us about the Boogie Man. Whether that group is Muslims, Gays, Minorities or Union Members, this is shifting our attention from what our government has been doing.  Yesterday, I saw over at The Book of Cletis a story about the rise of the Oligarchy.  That is only part of the plan.  The right wing will only be satisfied when we have given up all of our rights.

The programs that have made this country great are being dismantled.  Killed slowly so that we won't notice.  We have stood by while women's health is being assaulted.  We have stood by while they are talking about turning Medicare into a voucher system.  We have stood by while Gays, Minorities, Muslims and Unions are under assault.

How we treat the most vulnerable is a sign of how great we are.  Let's be the greatest country in the world.

Worst Person Of The Day

John Kyl and #Not Intended To Be A Factual Statement.

The other day Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) stood on the floor of the Senate, and told inaccurate statistics about Planned Parenthood. When he was confronted on this, his office said that what he said was "not intended to be a factual statement".

If our elected officials stand up and give knowingly inaccurate information, they need to be called out, mocked and shamed.

Stephen Colbert started a Twitter campaign that has become exceedingly popular. So popular, that a person could not keep up with it if they tried.

The best response I have heard on this, comes from a commenter on the Democratic Underground named randr, who said "I would love to see every interviewer of a Republican ask this question after every response, "is your answer intended to be a factual statement or just another lie?"."

Dr. Who Is Coming To America

Red Neck Turtle Burgers--I can hear my arteries hardening

Here's a new twist on how to serve burgers and if you don't cook, give this handy little guide to someone that does and request them.

Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave, then the next step, add hotdogs as the heads, legs with slits for toes and tail.

Next step. Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees. A little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle should be, no?

I got this in my email today, and thought it was too funny not to post.

The Kindness of the Average Person

Yesterday I took my 88 year old mother shopping, and I was blown away by how kind the average person is. Three people stopped to see if we needed help. Average people understand that the most vulnerable among us needs a little extra help at times. Neighbors do help neighbors.

Unfortunately, the average elected official forgets about simple human kindness. It becomes a game, and the game is hurting people. Tax cuts for the wealthy, and tax loopholes for oil companies are paid for with cuts to social services. The first article I read,  upon returning home, was one at Think Progress about budget deals that are paid for by cutting aid for poor women and children.

These cuts to our social safety net, are cruel. The average person gets this. It is time for our elected officials to listen.  Call or write your Congressman.

The Republican Plan For America

With the Republicans threatening to hold the debt ceiling hostage, making a cruel budget for 2012, I was wondering just what their "end game" could possibly be. These are the few things that I have noticed that will occur if the Republicans have their way.

1. No jobs--Despite Ryan's claims tax breaks for the wealthy do not create jobs.

2. No healthcare--Vouchers for people over 65 will cause great numbers of our elderly not to have healthcare. Medicaid will be practically eliminated.

3. Armed populace--Let's make sure that every American, stable or not, has a gun.

It seems like the Republicans want a disaster, since it is the very likely outcome of their programs.

Today's Posts

Yesterday, the day before, I kept hearing that we are in crisis. Social Security is not broke. The Nation is not Broke. We have simply shifted our priorities. We no longer want to care for our elderly. We want to cut social programs take over the world and give large tax breaks to the ultra rich. Today, my posts primarily deal with what is happening to the money in this country.

I hope you enjoy.

The Little Blog that Could (I sure hope)

First today, I would like to thank everyone for their support.  I would especially like to thank Cletis, thebookofcletis.blogspot.com, and everyone from Think Progress and Political Wire as well as the people who have posted me on Facebook.  I started this thing last Monday, April 4, because I wanted to have a positive outlet for my concerns (ok, anger) about some of the political silliness and downright meanness that some of our elected officials pull.  I have never been much of a writer, so, hopefully I will get better.

Please pass this little blog along, if you have the chance.  I hope it will be fun and  informative.

The next crisis looming on the horizon is the raising of the nation debt.  If the congress does not raise the debt ceiling when due, the US will default on its loans.  Both the Republicans and Democrats know this. A few of the "rabid right" would like to see this happen, but most representatives of both parties will try to avert this.

The "West Wing" had a wonderful spot on raising the debt ceiling, but I couldn't find it to post.  If someone has that clip, please send me the link.
