Poll: Americans See Republicans As Only Interested In Helping The ‘Haves’

Poll: Americans See Republicans As Only Interested In Helping The ‘Haves’: Almost half of all respondents to a new Washington Post poll say Republicans in Congress are doing more to help the “haves” than “have nots,” with fewer than a third saying the GOP treats both sides equally. A tiny 7 percent say Republican lawmakers are helping the have-nots. For contrast, a plurality say President Obama [...]/  Read More Here

More Than 300,000 Ohio Voters Submit Petition Suspending Gov. Kasich’s Anti-Voter Law

More Than 300,000 Ohio Voters Submit Petition Suspending Gov. Kasich’s Anti-Voter Law: Earlier this year, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) signed a sweeping bill intended to make it harder to vote in his states’ elections. Kasich’s anti-voter law drastically cuts back on early voting and erects new barriers for absentee and even for election day voters. Today, however, opponents of Kasich’s war on voting will submit over [...]/  Read More Here

As Unions Weaken So Does the Middle Class

As Unions Weaken So Does the Middle Class  Center for American Progress
By David Madland, Nick Bunker

New state income data released yesterday by the U.S. Census Bureau shows the importance of unions to boosting incomes for all middle-class households—union and nonunion alike. The 2010 income data makes it clear that strong unions are a critical factor in creating a middle-class society. Restoring the strength of unions would go a long way toward rebuilding the middle class.  Read More Here

Why the Kochs Want to Make Chris Christie President | | AlterNet

AlterNet / By Adele M. Stan

Neither Romney nor Perry has done the one thing that truly excites the Koch brothers and their fellow deep-pocketed Christie fans: take on the public sector unions in a big way.

When Texas Gov. Rick Perry, currently the frontrunner in the Republican presidential nomination contest, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made a pilgrimage in June to a Colorado gathering of wealthy right-wing donors convened by billionaires Charles and David Koch, one man clearly impressed the brothers much more than the other.  Read More Here

Quinnipiac shows modest bounce for Kasich/Building a Better Ohio as Republican voters return home

Quinnipiac shows modest bounce for Kasich/Building a Better Ohio as Republican voters return home--Plunderbund

The latest Quinnipiac Poll is out and it has the best polling news the outfit has shown for Kasich since he took office. Kasich has seen a five-point bounce in his approval rating from 35% in late July to 40%. His disapproval rating, however, remains largely unchanged since May hovering right at the 50% mark. This is the most popular Kasich has been since taking office and he’s still -9% under water. Independents, who were a key part of Kasich’s victory a year ago, still largely disapprove of him more than approve at 48%/38%. Kasich’s bounce is due in part to Republicans coming back home to him and supporting him 72% to 18%, a vast improvement from July when only 66% approved of him. He’s also improved his standing with male voters going from a 40%/48% approval/disapproval in July to 45%/46%. Most of Kasich’s bounce comes from those two demographics: Republicans and male voters. The partisan nature of bounce is reflected elsewhere in the poll which show no real significant movement on fundamental questions that would indicate a broad-based improvement in Kasich standing. 49% of Ohioans believe Kasich’s budget is unfair to people like them. Only 36% believe it’s fair. That’s a marginal improvement from the 32%/50% in July. Kasich’s handling of the budget still hasn’t substantially improved. He has a 35%/53% approval/disapproval on the budget, which is not much better than the 32%/54% he had in July on the question. And Ohioans dissatisfaction with the direction of the State is essentially unchanged from May. All of this indicates that Kasich’s bounce is entirely Republican voter driven. Read More Here

Indecision 2012 - The Great Right Hope - The GOP Finds Another Ideal Candidate

What the Post Office says about this country--Motivated In Ohio

In 2006, the Republican Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law, a bill called the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act. This bill sounds nice, but seems to be a brazen attempt to privatize the post office. This bill causes the Post Office to fund their retirement plan, 75 years into the future. They need to do this in just 10 years.  In other words, if someone retires at 65, they are funding the retirement of people ten years before they are born.  No other government agency has to do this. So every year since 2006, the Post Office puts billions of dollars into the treasury.  Five years later, things are getting tight. I just finished watching an interview on Democracy Now.  One man kept talking about selling off the property of the post office to pay for the bizarre policy.

The Post Office has always been a great American Success Story.  It is self funding, so no tax payer dollars have to be spent.   It services areas, that for profit companies would reject.  It is even mentioned in the Constitution of the United States (Article I, Section 8, Clause 7).  To undermine the Post Office, with this poison pill, is inexcusable, and shows where Republican Policies take us.  If we let them do this, is any program safe?

[Update]  I forgot to mention, the act also put on price caps for the areas that the post office has a monopoly (first class mail for example) to the rate of inflation.  See More here.

The Guardian has learned that the officer, named by activists as deputy inspector Anthony Bologna, stands accused of false arrest and civil rights violations in a claim brought by a protester involved in the 2004 demonstrations at the Republican national convention.  Read More Here
