Blockbuster IPCC Chart Hints at Dust-Bowlification, But Report Is Mostly Silent on Warming’s Gravest Threat to Humanity: A USA Today (not IPCC) chart emphasizes the risk of drought in heavily populated areas. Woman Gets Jail For Food-Stamp Fraud; Wall Street Fraudsters Get Bailouts | Matt Taibbi | Rolling Stone
Had a quick piece of news I wanted to call attention to, in light of the recent developments at Zuccotti Park. For all of those who say the protesters have it wrong, and don’t really have a cause worth causing public unrest over, consider this story, sent to me by a friend on the Hill.
Last week, a federal judge in Mississippi sentenced a mother of two named Anita McLemore to three years in federal prison for lying on a government application in order to obtain food stamps. Read More Here

Top 5 Reasons Why The Occupy Wall Street Protests Embody Values Of The Real Boston Tea Party
Top 5 Reasons Why The Occupy Wall Street Protests Embody Values Of The Real Boston Tea Party: In recent years, the Boston Tea Party has been associated with a right-wing movement that supports policies favoring powerful corporations and the wealthy. As ThinkProgress has reported, lobbyists and Republican front groups have driven the current manifestation of the Tea Party to push for giveaways to oil companies and big businesses. The Enemies Within: The 20 Most Dangerous Conservatives And Their Organizations | Addicting Info
The Enemies Within: The 20 Most Dangerous Conservatives And Their Organizations | Addicting Info
By Stephen D. Foster Jr.
America has enemies. Not just abroad, but within our shores as well. And our domestic enemies, as it turns out, are MORE dangerous and destructive than the terrorists could ever hope to be. Because while the terrorists want to destroy us, the following people and their organizations are doing far more damage.
1. Roger Ailes: The President of Fox News keeps the right-wing mouth piece biased and unbalanced. He literally proposed a right-wing news network as a propaganda tool to use during the Nixon Administration. And now, Fox News makes every effort to slander Democrats, lie to the public, and support conservative groups, activists and politicians at all costs.
Want to tell Ailes what you think of him? Feel free to contact Fox News Channel by mail, phone, or email.

2. The Koch Brothers: Yes, there is more than one Koch brother, but rather than jotting down the same paragraph twice, it makes more sense to combine the two. Charles and David Koch are the owners of Koch Industries, a private oil and chemicals company. They have spent big money in elections and have pretty much bought and paid for all of Republicans that sit on the energy committee. They also have ties to The John Birch Society, of which their father was a founding member, and several other conservative think tanks and organizations including, Americans For Prosperity which David Koch leads as chairman, the Heritage Foundation, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and the Cato Institute. They helped create and fund the Tea Party and have been very influential in the watering down of environmental laws and the destruction of unions. If you really want to see the scope of their influence look at what is happening in Wisconsin and in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I know you must be dying to contact Koch Industries to give them your opinion, so here’s how you can do that.

White Rabbit, are we living in a song by Jefferson Airplane?--Motivated In Ohio
Today, I started wondering if we're living in a song by Jefferson Airplane. We currently have people, of flesh and blood, called by the Ayn Randian term of "parasites". We have the non breathing, non living corporations viewed as people, and given the right of unlimited free speech. The mega wealthy, who are sitting on trillions in cash, are called the "job creators" even though they are not creating jobs. The patriots who are demonstrating about the abuses of Wall Street and the government are being called "rabble", an 84 year old woman was pepper sprayed, and Congress just declared pizza a vegetable.
I would like to wake up now.
I would like to wake up now.
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small
When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving slow
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said;
"Keep YOUR HEAD
_______________
Keep your head"

School voucher bill prepares to leech funds from ALL Ohioans
We published a few articles about House Bill 136 (commonly referred to as the School Voucher Bill) over the past few months, but nothing since the end of September when the bill was passed by the House Education Committee. At that time, we published data that detailed the effects of the implementation of HB 136 on every school district in Ohio. That list was eye-opening to many people across the state because of the negative effects it highlighted. That list, it seems, was also wrong. Read More Here

Why we should drown Grover (metaphorically) and fund Government--Motivated In Ohio
We have a person in charge of our legislature, he was not elected, and he controls our politicians. His name is Grover Norquist. He wants to "drown government in a bath tub", in other words, he wants government so small that it is not functional. He has been working toward this for many years. In the meantime, our infrastructure is failing, all of the programs that we have in place to help our country are underfunded.
Almost every Republican, and a few Democrats have signed his pledge to always lower taxes. Since then, we have become involved in wars, and still lowered tax rates. Now, when we have a giant revenue problem, and the greatest economic downturn since the great depression. These Groverites are talking about spending cuts for the poor, not tax increases for the people most able to afford them. What kind of country do we want to be, the kind that is always reacting to the newest collapse of infrastructure, or the kind that takes care of that infrastructure. The kind of country that takes care of the poor, the sick and the elderly, or the kind that says "let him die".
One person in 6 is now living in poverty, is this the time to have less government? Do you want to drown Government or drown Grover (metaphorically). I think Grover!

Learning from the Kent State Massacre--Motivated In Ohio
I didn't plan to write about this until May but it needs to be said now. May 4, 1970, the Governor of Ohio sent the National Guard to Kent State University, to put down an "inconvenient" protest of the War in Vietnam. A total of 67 shots were fired in 13 seconds; four students were killed and nine others wounded. We are at a time in this country, where we need to study this tragedy so that it does not become our future. People are protesting again and, as Colin Powell said, "It is American as Apple Pie." We need to respect the right of people to assemble and protest, even if we disagree with them and we need to make sure that nothing like May 4, 1970, happens now.

What Rep. Bachus Was Saying While Profiting From The Financial Crisis
60 Minutes reported last night that Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL) made hundreds of trades clearing tens of thousands of dollars in profit by shorting the market in the fall of 2008, thanks in part to information he had from congressional briefings. The transactions were all legal, but he bet against the market — sometimes in very specific ways — based on information he got by virtue of his position as the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee. Confirmed Serial Adulterer Passes Alleged Serial Harasser in GOP Race | Crooks and Liars
Here in a nutshell is the state of play in the 2012 Republican presidential sweepstakes: alleged serial sexual harasser Herman Cain is being surpassed by confirmed serial adulterer Newt Gingrich. With Mitt Romney stalled and Cain hemorrhaging support from women voters, polls last week from CBS and Marist showed the former House Speaker had surged into a virtual three-way tie at the top. By Monday, new surveys fromCNN and PPP showed Newt vaulting past the fading pizza maker. Nevertheless, that development should be a discomforting prospect for a Republican Party which lost the women's vote by 13 points in 2008. As his public statements and personal life show, the thrice-married Gingrich is hardly a champion for American women. Read More Here

We have written often regarding education in America and, if I may, I'll take another crack at it. Many of the political problems we have discussed at the Book of Cletis are really more symptomatic of underlying cultural problems. Our lack of a discerning citizenry, for example, is what allows the hijacking of our democracy by a few well-connected, well-funded people. Read More Here

Ain't That A Shame: Pat Boone And 60 Plus Attack Sen. Sherrod Brown With Recycled Health Care Lies | Political Correction
In a new ad from the 60 Plus Association, renowned Top 40 crooner Pat Boone misrepresents the role, responsibilities, and powers of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) set up by the Affordable Care Act to slow the dangerous rise of health care costs. But Boone, whose cover of Fats Domino's "Ain't That A Shame" was a No. 1 hit in 1955, is behind the times. It's been well established for a year now that IPAB doesn't have the power to ration care or change Medicare benefits, and the board's members have to be confirmed by the Senate. Furthermore, while Boone claims IPAB's savings will "fund more wasteful spending" and accuses Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) of "ignoring the problem" with Medicare's finances, the changes in the health care law actually extended the life of Medicare. Read More Here

Daily Kos: That's not 'overreach.' That's just the Republican Party.
For Democrats, progressives, labor activists and anyone who thinks that a murder charge is perhaps too heavy a consequence for curing a life-threatening condition such as an ectopic pregnancy, this past Tuesday night was a good night. Issue 2 in Ohio, the popular referendum on whether to enact S.B. 5 and essentially destroy the financial and political power of public employee unions, was crushed, losing in all but six of Ohio's counties. In deep-red Mississippi, voters soundly defeated a vague, extremist piece of legislation that would have defined a fertilized egg as a person—not just banning abortion, but fertility clinics, morning-after pills, perhaps even regular birth control and life-saving medical procedures. In Arizona and Michigan, extremist legislators Russell Pearce and Paul Scott, known for their respective fanaticism against immigrants and teachers' unions, were recalled from office. Democrats had a dominating day in statewide races in Kentucky, had good turnout in the primary in Oregon's First District to determine David Wu's successor, and kept the Iowa Senate in Democratic hands.
