The Bomb Buried In Obamacare Explodes Today-Hallelujah! - Forbes

The Bomb Buried In Obamacare Explodes Today-Hallelujah! - Forbes

I have long argued that the impact of the Affordable Care Act is not nearly as big of a deal as opponents would have you believe. At the end of the day, the law is – in the main – little more than a successful effort to put an end to some of the more egregious health insurer abuses while creating an environment that should bring more Americans into programs that will give them at least some of the health care coverage they need.

There is, however, one notable exception – and it’s one that should have a long lasting and powerful impact on the future of health care in our country. Read More Here

What happened to America's leisure society?

Where is America? I sure miss her!--Motivated In Ohio

The other day, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, said that he had an "army" which was the seventh largest in the world.  People protesting have been pepper sprayed, beaten and evicted.  Jobs are few, and mostly overseas.  The financial institutions that brought down the economy both here and abroad are not prosecuted, but rewarded.

People view paying their fair share of taxes as government theft.  People are homeless, hungry and desperate, and the GOP candidates, look like a sketch on Saturday Night Live.

I remember a time, where most people made money by producing something.  Where Wall Street didn't have a share of everyone's retirement plan.   I remember a time where food wasn't super processed goo, and people knew the origins of it.  I recall when Teachers, Firefighters and Police officers were respected professions. I remember all of this as America, and I sure miss her.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Republican Governors Association met this week in Florida to give GOP state executives a chance to rejuvenate, strategize and team-build. But during a plenary session on Wednesday, one question kept coming up: How can Republicans do a better job of talking about Occupy Wall Street?

"I'm so scared of this anti-Wall Street effort. I'm frightened to death," said Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist and one of the nation's foremost experts on crafting the perfect political message. Asian countries, home to about 60 percent of the world's population, will be hit hardest by changing weather patterns and a degrading environment, research indicates.

A whopping 90 percent of all disaster displacement within countries in 2010 was caused by climate- related disasters, the international body Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) reported. That year, 38.3 million women, men and children were forced to move, mainly by floods and storms.  Read More Here

Gingrich, Alvin Toffler and the Constitution.--Motivated In Ohio

As many people know, I check multiple sources to know what is happening in the world.  I was surprised when I was checking out a few facts on Newt Gingrich to come upon this at Red State.

Newt Gingrich is a fan of author Alvin Toffler, who believes that our American system of government, which was designed by the Founding Fathers, and which is protected by our Constitution, has become obsolete, and needs to be discarded, and re-designed. According to Toffler (and Newt), “It needs to die and be replaced.”

He wrote the forward to Toffler’s last book, The Politics of the Third Wave.

“The American challenge in leading the world is compounded by our Constitution… either we are going to have to rethink our Constitution, or we are going to have to rethink our process of making decisions.”  Read More Here

I have many reasons, that I would not want Newt as President,

  1. His stand on Child Labor and the walk back after finding the public didn't like that.
  2. His personal lack of integrity.
But, I have never heard of a Candidate for President, who didn't want to uphold the Constitution before.  That in itself is enough to disqualify him in my opinion.

Crony Capitalism? Hank Paulson’s Extraordinary Meeting - ProPublica

Crony Capitalism? Hank Paulson’s Extraordinary Meeting - ProPublica

by Jesse Eisinger

Yesterday, federal judge Jed Rakoff slammed the Securities and Exchange Commission for making a toothless settlement with Citigroup over financial crisis misdeeds, arguing that it obscured the basic facts of what actually happened. Today, Bloomberg has animportant story by Richard Teitelbaum that, from a very different vantage point, demonstrates the same infuriating point: Despite the economic wreckage we are still trying to repair, we have yet to have an adequate accounting of how the financial crisis happened, what caused it, and who knew what when.

According to the story, on July 21, 2008, then-Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson met with “a dozen or so hedge- fund managers and other Wall Street executives” and discussed “a possible scenario for placing Fannie [Mae] and Freddie [Mac] into ‘conservatorship.’” That’s a fancy term for a government seizure that would have allowed the entities to keep operating, but would have caused severe adverse consequences to holders of the Frannies’ equity and, possibly, debt. A fund manager told Bloomberg he was “shocked that Paulson would furnish such specific information -- to his mind, leaving little doubt that the Treasury Department would carry out the plan.” After the meeting, this manager consulted a lawyer, who told him to cease trading immediately in the Frannies, lest he later be accused of – here’s the rub – insider trading.  Read More Here

'We the People' versus 'We the Corporation': Sentiment Builds for Banning Corporate Personhood, But Tough Road Ahead. | | AlterNet

How far should a constitutional amendment go to roll back corporate rights? And is it possible?

Across the country, momentum has been building for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution declaring that the democratic rights and freedoms granted to people do not apply to corporations and corporate entities.

In November alone, local voters in Colorado, Montana, Maine, Wisconsin andCalifornia passed various resolutions to ban corporate personhood. Seven bills have been introduced in the current Congress, including four this month—includingamendmentproposals. Public interest groups have been gathering petition signatures, all with an eye to the two-year anniversary of a Supreme Court ruling, known as Citizens United, which granted significant new political powers to corporations by ending a century-old prohibition on directly spending money from their corporate treasuries for political campaigns.  Read More Here

To Conservatives, Climate Change is Trojan Horse to Abolish Capitalism | | AlterNet

Deniers have concluded that fighting climate change can only happen by reordering our economic and political systems in ways antithetical to their “free market” belief system.

There is a question from a gentleman in the fourth row.

He introduces himself as Richard Rothschild. He tells the crowd that he ran for county commissioner in Maryland’s Carroll County because he had come to the conclusion that policies to combat global warming were actually “an attack on middle-class American capitalism.” His question for the panelists, gathered in a Washington, DC, Marriott Hotel in late June, is this: “To what extent is this entire movement simply a green Trojan horse, whose belly is full with red Marxist socioeconomic doctrine?” Read More Here
